Less than one month to register for VAT

Businesses which have notified HM Revenue & Customs that they need to register for VAT must do so before 31st December 2011. The deadline for notifications was 30th September 2011, and companies then had to register with HMRC. The deadline is fast approaching, with less than one month left in order to avoid a penalty. Insurance survey reveals UK businesses take risks

A recent survey carried out by Hiscox insurance company, reveals that 30 percent of Small and Medium Enterprises are willing to take risks and only take out minimum insurance cover. New year introduces new legislation for back dated expenses claims

Investors of small business to receive tax breaks

The government has been granted permission for expansion of the Enterprise Investment Scheme. The EIS was launched in January 1994 to provide incentives in the form of generous tax relief when investing capital in new enterprise. Under the new proposals, tax relief will be available at 30 percent rather than the previous figure of 20 percent. The yearly amount of investment will be doubled to £1 million. (more…)

A “Business Cost Index” which has been created by the Centre for Economic and Business Research and Make it Cheaper, has revealed which areas of the United Kingdom are the most expensive and the cheapest for businesses. Unsurprisingly, London was revealed as the most expensive area to run a business. Wales was revealed as the cheapest area of the UK to run a business. (more…)

Confidence of SMEs responsible for UK growth
